Stock photography is the business of licensing images that were previously shot and are therefore “in stock.” Stock images are widely used by art directors, designers, publishers etc. for every kind of commercial and editorial use. Everywhere you look in printed and electronic media, you’ll see stock images, on web sites, in magazines and newspapers, in brochures and ads, on T.V and more. Expenditure on advertising is fully correlated with economic growth. Asian economies are in constant growth, and so is the expenditure on advertising, add to that the relief on media regulations, censorship and growing awareness of copyrights. But high quality creative and up to-date Asian focused photos are scarce or almost unavailable. We are in the process of filling the gap and building a large image library of Asian focus. We have completed phase one, which was to develop the required software and web site that allows us to sign in photographers, and begin content aggregation and indexing. |

A large part of our image acquisition process, is the approval and key-wording of each individual photo. Approval is the QA of a photo to meet our client’s minimum standards (size, quality and creativity). Key-Wording is the process of adding keywords to describe the content of each photo, so clients could perform a query and efficiently and accurately locate those images. Those tasks are labor and time consuming therefore costly, and it delays the time to market of a new photo that arrives at our desk. We wish to develop, a software solution that would replace part of the human interaction in the process. The system should pre-scan the images for technical qualifications and match keywords with existing photos in the database. Once the solution is implemented, a photo would arrive to our employee, once it has already been QA’d and partially key-worded. That eventually would reduce the time of the image processing and therefore cut production cost and time to market. |

Our ideal R&D partner should be a software company, in the line of business that involves advanced image detection. The final product should be able to scan a large batch of photos, do so in a time efficient manger and scan the images, first for technical qualifications (size, noise level, color depth, etc.), and second and more important, to try and analyze the content of the photo, and generate a list of keywords based on its findings. The keywords would then be mapped to a controlled vocabulary dictionary, and matched vs. existing photos in the database, to import additional keywords based on calculated matching probabilities. In terms of the roles of our company and the partner in Israel, we would be able to perform the database matching, indexing, search, controlled vocabularies, and graphical user interfaces. Our ideal partner would develop and provide the software and algorithms to scan and analyze the quality and content of the images. |
