| THE Singapore-Israel Industrial R&D Foundation (SIIRD) will receive another US$9 million to promote and facilitate research and development between companies from Israel and Singapore for 2007 to 2009, according to Eli Opper, chief scientist of Israel's Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labour, at Global Entrepolis @ Singapore 2006.
This brings the total amount of funds committed to the SIIRD to US$62 million since it was established in 1997. As of October this year, the foundation has funded some 58 projects. |

Administered by Singapore's Economic Development Board and Israel's Office of the Chief Scientist in the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labour, SIIRD funds up to half the cost of joint technology development programmes undertaken by companies from Singapore and Israel. Previous projects funded by the SIIRD include projects from Creative Technology, Excelpoint Systems, Vidzmedia, Ntegrator, XID Technologies and Xhance. These projects target R&D into technologies such as interactive voice interface for household appliances, a video surveillance system based on facial and body recognition, and a mobile digital TV card for USB ports. The SIIRD is one of a few bi-national funds which Israel has a part in. Other countries it has a similar R&D fund with include the US, Canada, South Korea and the UK. |
